Paul Carter is a Platinum selling British songwriter and producer that works under the name Benbrick.[2] He is primarily known for contributing the end-credits music to the third instalment of the popular Japanese movie franchise Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン Shin Seiki Evangerion).[3]

Career

In 2014 Carter worked with Troye Sivan. The track they wrote together "Gasoline" was included on Troye Sivan's release TRXYE. The album charted on iTunes at number 1 in 58 countries [4] including the USA,[5] United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Carter wrote "Remember to Smile" with Jeff Franzel. It was released on the 2014 Elva Hsiao record "Shut Up And Kiss Me".[6] The album topped the iTunes charts in Hong Kong and Taiwan. It entered at number 3 in Malaysia.

In 2012 Carter co-wrote platinum[7] selling Sakura Nagashi[3][8] (桜流し) with Japanese popstar Hikaru Utada. It was released digitally and charted at No. 1 iTunes Japan,[9] No. 1 Chaka-Uta Recochoku Monthly,[10] and No. 1 Billboard Japan Hot Animation.[11] It is also the theme to the newest Evangelion movie series, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo[12] which was the biggest film opening of 2012 in Japan[13] and the 12th biggest opening of all time in Japan.[14]

Carter had 2 tracks[15] on China X Factor winner[16] Mary Jess debut album "Shine" which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and features the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.[17] Stand As One was used for a global P&G TV advertising campaign.[18] Heaven Is Empty was the third single taken from the album.[19]

Paul Carter provided additional production for Gary Go 'Now Was Once The Future' album track "Heavy". Carter co-wrote and produced "Begging" for UK artist Project Alfie[20] which featured on Universal Musics R&B Compilation 2012.[21]

Interaction with Ricky Gervais

Carter composed [22] a short score to scenes cut from the Channel 4 TV Show Derek (TV show).[23] In 2014 the multi Emmy, BAFTA and Golden Globe winning creator of the show Ricky Gervais came across the music and began to post about it online. On Facebook he called the music ‘Stunningly beautiful’[24] and added later ‘I just want you to love it as much as I do’.[24] He tweeted about it multiple times [25][26][27][28] and reposted a blog post that Carter had made about the track.[29] It received over 650k+ plays on the video through Facebook.
