Patrick Wimberly is a musician, songwriter, and producer and half of the Brooklyn-based synth pop duo Chairlift (band).[1]

Career

Chairlift

Originally from Nashville, TN Patrick met band-mate Caroline Polachek at the University of Colorado in 2004.[2] After moving to New York City in 2006, Patrick and Caroline, along with former band member Aaron Pfenning, formed Chairlift in early 2007.[3]

In 2008, Patrick went on tour with Chairlift to open for the experimental indie rockers Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti.[4] Shortly thereafter, Chairlift’s song “Bruises” was featured in the September 2008 commercial for the iPod Nano; becoming their most widely known and breakout single following the release of their debut album Does You Inspire You.[5][6]

Following Does You Inspire You, Patrick worked on Chairlift’s 2012 sophomore album Something (Chairlift album).[7] The album features singles "Amanaemonesia" (2011), "Met Before" (2012), and "I Belong In Your Arms" (2012)[8]

Collaborations

Chairlift collaborated with Das Racist on the song "Fashion Party", the tenth song on Das Racist's 2010 mixtape, Sit Down, Man. In 2011, Patrick produced multiple songs in American rap group Das Racist's album Relax.[9] The album reached the number one spot on Billboard Magazine's Top Heatseekers and was named one of the best albums of 2011 by both Spin and Rolling Stone magazines.[10][11][12]

Also in 2011, Patrick worked as a composer and producer on the album “We Are The Lucky Ones” by Latin singer Tecla and played the drums, keyboard, percussions, and produced on Acrylic’s Lives and Treasure.[13] Patrick produced Brooklyn band Fort Lean’s EP Change Your Name in 2012.[14] In 2013 Patrick joined Solange Knowles’s touring live show where he played drums for her band.[15] Patrick has also partnered with Solange for songwriting on her upcoming album.[16] Beyoncé invited Patrick to work on her self-titled surprise album Beyoncé in 2013. During their studio sessions, Caroline gave Beyoncé a song she had worked on called “No Angel.” The track, co-produced by Patrick, made it on Beyoncé which was released in December of 2013.[17] Most recently, Patrick mixed Arcadia, the 2014 debut album of Caroline’s side project Ramona Lisa.[18] He was also credited with mixing Tune-Yards’ latest album Nikki Nack in May 2014.[19] In April 2014, Patrick did additional production and mixed Kelela & Tink's collaborative song 'Want It.'[20]

Television Appearances

On November 28, 2011 Patrick performed with Das Racist on Late Night With Conan O'Brien playing the drums to their hit "Michael Jackson."[21] He also played the drums alongside Solange for her December 10, 2012 performance of "Losing You" on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.[22]
