Patrick Calhoun

Patrick Calhoun (1856 – 1943), was the son of Andrew Pickens Calhoun, grandson of John C. Calhoun and Floride Calhoun, and the great-grandson of his namesake Patrick Calhoun.

He was an entrepreneur. He was born in the family home in what is now Clemson, South Carolina and is buried there, in Woodland Cemetery.

He lived in the Calhoun Mansion in Charleston, South Carolina with his wife, Sarah Williams. After losing a great deal of money in the Shipping Industry, he then sold the home and moved to Collinston, Louisiana where he raised his family who still lives in the area today and has since spread to New Orleans, Louisiana and Cleveland, Ohio. He later moved to San Francisco after becoming involved in the railroad industry in Louisiana and Georgia.

His initial involvement was primarily with the Central Georgia Railroad, but he later rose to the top of the streetcar system in San Francisco, becoming president of United Railroads of San Francisco. Late in life he achieved a new wealth, this time through oil speculation.
