Patient Zero, previously known as Patient Z, is an upcoming American fantasy-horror thriller film directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky and written by Mike Le. The film stars Natalie Dormer, Matt Smith, Stanley Tucci, Clive Standen, Agyness Deyn and John Bradley-West. Filming began on March 3, 2014 in London. Screen Gems will release the film in 2016.

Plot

After an outbreak of a pandemic disease of rabies, results in turning mostly humans into highly intelligent new species, known as "The Infected." A human survivor, Morgan (Matt Smith), with the ability to talk with the "infected," investigates these species and pursues "Patient Zero" to find an antidote to save humanity including his infected wife (Natalie Dormer).[1]

On October 18, 2013, it was announced that Mike Le's zombie script "Patient Z" was in the bidding war between different mini-major studios to get its rights, Appian Way was about to take it to the Fox Searchlight Pictures and Syfy Films, while Warner Bros. was also in talks.[7] Other studios in the bidding were included Silver Pictures, Davis Entertainment, Broken Road Productions, Donners' Company, Vincent Newman Entertainment and Misher Films.[7] The script is set in a post-apocalyptic world, about a man who has to find an antidote for his zombie infected wife.[7] Revealed by TheWrap on October 29, 2013, Screen Gems won the bidding war from other studios and acquired the US rights to the film titled "Patient Zero", which Vincent Newman was set to produce through his Vincent Newman Entertainment.[8] Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky was set to direct the film on May 2, 2014.[9]

On September 24, 2014, Natalie Dormer was set to star in zombie film Patient Zero.[3] Matt Smith joined the film on November 20, 2014.[2] On January 22, 2015, Stanley Tucci joined the cast to play the villainous role of an infected professor who becomes highly violent.[4] John Bradley-West was added to the cast of the film on February 20, 2015.[6] Clive Standen joined the film on February 24, 2015 to play Sargent Knox, a tough military leader who tries his best to control the wildly situation created by new species.[5] Agyness Deyn's involvement was also confirmed on March 9, 2015.[1]

Filming

Principal photography on the film began in London on March 3, 2014.[10] On March 9, shooting was underway at Shepperton Studios in England.[1] Filming would take place in London through April 18, 2015.[1] They have also filmed in Welwyn Garden City on April 15, 2015 where a SWAT van and car were seen on set.[11]
