Pasumarru (పసుమర్రు) is one of the villages in Chilakaluripet mandal of Guntur District in Andhra Pradesh, India.[1] Pasumarru is around 3 km distance from Chilakaluripet and 42 km distance from district headquarters Guntur, 76.4 km from the state Capital City Vijayawada.

History

The village was formerly known as "Pasuvula Marri" and eventually acquired the current official name of "Pasumarru". Some people still call it as "Pasumarthi" also.

Geography

Pasumarru is located next to Chilakaluripet and towards Chirala. Surrounding villages are Annambotlavaripalem in the (East), Boppudi in the (West), Gudevaripalem in the (South) and MaddiNagar/Chilakaluripet in (North) of the village.

In earlier days this village was famous for Ball Badminton. Cricket is becoming popular.

Schools and colleges

In olden days people used to study in the same village but now people got scattered throughout the state and these old schools have become orphans. Even today, there is no proper English medium school in this village, causing people to send their children to nearby towns or cities for their studies.

It is the second biggest Panchayath in Chilakaluripet mandal after Ganapavaram viallage. The population is around 12,000.

It will come under Chilakaluripet municipality which is just 3 km from Pasumarru.

Religion

Hinduism is the most widely followed religion. All the major festivals like Sankranthi, Maha Shivarathri, Sri Ramanavami, Diwali, Ramzan, Bakrid and Christmas are celebrated.

The most celebrated festival in this village is Sankranthi. There will be a "Teppotsvam" on Kanuma day which follows the immediate day of Makara Sankranthi. Both the gods "Sri Rajyalakshmi sametha Venkateswara swami" and "Ganga,Parvathi Sametha Thandaveswara Swami" are taken through the village and then into the water (in Cheruvu). It resembles a small Karnival on Kanuma day. Hundreds of people from nearby villages participate in the village's festival celebrations. It is an occasion for former villagers to return and meet all their friends and relatives.

The village contains two mosques called Big Masjid and Small Masjid. At every festival people from both the mosques will be gathered near "Vaagu" for Namaz.
