Pasadena Museum of History is a museum and research library located in Pasadena, California. It is mainly devoted to preserve and educate the public about the history, art and culture of Pasadena and the west San Gabriel Valley. The Pasadena Museum of History has developed into one of the country's premier institutions of its size.[1] It is a private, nonprofit institution that is supported by donations from corporations, businesses, foundations and members of the Museum.[2]

History

The Fenyes Mansion (1906) is a historic property having housed four generations of the Fenyes-Curtin-Paloheimo family [3] and it was founded in 1924 as the Pasadena Historical Society. Since 1970 the Museum has been controlled as a Pasadena Cultural Landmark and also carried by the Paloheimo Foundation. The exterior colors of the Museum remain the same, white with dark brown trim.

Archives and Collections

The Research Library has been collecting materials related to the history of Pasadena since 1924. The library possess approximately 1 million historic images (including postcards, pictures, negatives, stereographs). There are also a range of maps and plans of the area, and also a set of Sandborm fire insurance fire insurance maps for Pasadena. There is also a collection of photo albums, scrapbooks and ephemera related to the history of the city. There are more than 150 special collections in the Library, including the Sylvanus Marston set of architectural drawings; the Tournament of Roses Collection; the Giddings-Hollingsworth Family Collection; the Fenyes-Curtin-Paloheimo Papers; the Black History Collection; the Hugh Anderson/Model Grocery Company Collection.[4] The Library also counts with a collection of approximately 1.000 books.

Family Collection

An extent collection of decorative arts, paintings, costumes/ textiles, family papers from Fenyes Family are also available at Pasadena Museum of History. More than 3800 watercolors and sketches painted by Eva Scott Faynes, about her travels and life between 1866 to 1929. A collection of textiles of more than 3000 pieces from 1880 to 1970.[5] Object Colletion are also displayed in the museum, which reflects in several areas in Pasadena's history, from utilitarian, decoratives and fine arts components.
