Paris Photo
Paris Photo is an international art fair of photography held annually since 1997 in Paris, France in November. The fair is held in the Grand Palais.
Details
Every year, Paris Photo invites a selected country or region to promote their native artists. In 2006 Spain was selected, and in 2007 Scandinavia.
In 2006, public attendance was 40,000.
Julien Frydman is its current director.
The Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards
Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation have run The Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards since 2012.[1] The categories are Photography Catalogue of the Year, PhotoBook of the Year and First PhotoBook.
PhotoBook of the Year winners
- 2012: Concresco by David Galjaard (First PhotoBook Award); City Diary (Volumes 1–3) by Anders Petersen.[2]
- 2013: KARMA by Óscar Monzón (First PhotoBook); A01 [COD.19.1.1.43] — A27 [S | COD.23] by Rosângela Rennó. Special jury recognition was awarded to War/Photography: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath, edited by Anne Wilkes Tucker and Will Michels with Natalie Zelt.[2]
- 2014: Imaginary Club by Oliver Sieber. Special mention was awarded to Photographs for Documents by Vytautas V. Stanionis.[3]
First PhotoBook winners
- 2014: Hidden Islam by Nicoló Degiorgis.[3]
Photography Catalogue of the Year winners
- 2014: Christopher Williams: The production Line of Happiness and Christopher Williams: Printed in Germany by Christopher Williams.[3]
Jury prize
The festival at one time had a jury prize, associated with a theme, awarded to the artist whose work best expresses the theme. In 2007 the theme was "Pleasure, Distilled" and the prize was 12,000 Euros. Karijn Kakebeeke was winner of the 2009 BMW – Paris Photo Prize for contemporary photography.
Paris Photo Los Angeles
In 2013, a Los Angeles edition of Paris Photo was held for the first time at Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood.[4] The 2014 edition featured a tribute to Dennis Hopper, including a display of his photographic work and a screening of his 1971 film, The Last Movie.[5] 16,000 visitors attended the fair over the course of four days.[6][7]
