Paratrachichthys trailli, the sandpaper fish or common roughy, is a slimehead belonging to the family Trachichthyidae, found in southern Australia and southern New Zealand at depths between 20 and 500 m. Its length is between 10 and 25 cm.[1]
P. trailli is a ray-finned fish; its name originates from the Greek. They are spread across the Western Pacific, namely New Zealand and Australia,[2] at reported depths around 70 m.[3][1]
