Parala Maharaja Engineering College(PMEC BERHAMPUR)(Oriya: ପାରଳା ମହାରାଜା ଯାନ୍ତ୍ରିକ ମହାବିଦ୍ୟାଳୟ) is the first Government engineering college in southern Odisha. Established in 2009, the college was instituted by Naveen Patnaik, the then chief minister of Odisha.^[1] The college has one academic building and one workshop.^[2] It is a constituent college of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT).^[3] This college was named after the King Krushna Chandra Gajapati.the creator of modern Odisha

Academic structure

The college provides 4 year Bachelor of Technology degrees in 7 disciplines of engineering:Automobile, Civil, Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication and Production. A three-year B.Tech degree for diploma holders as lateral entries is also offered. All courses are full-time. The institute also conducts 1 M.Tech. courses in Mechanical System Design.

Each academic year consists of two semesters and a summer term. The education system is organised around a credit system, which ensures continuous evaluation of a student's performance and provides flexibility to choose courses to suit the student's ability or convenience. Each course is assigned credits depending upon the class hours.

The college has its own workshop building.
The college has its own separate hostels for boys and girls.
The college has its own library supported by thousand of volumes of books, software, computer related technical books.
A state-of-the art Multimedia Digital Language Laboratory with Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) facilities has been set up in the Department to develop the English language proficiency of the students and to meet the growing market demand of a smart and articulate workforce in association with IIT KHARAGPUR.

Admission

Intake into different degree courses in this institute is made only through a “Joint Entrance Examination” conducted each year by the government of Odisha.This year ojee sought its admission through jee-main previously known as "AIEEE". The details of the eligibility, reservation, medical requirements, procedure for admission etc. are given as per the information brochure of “OJEE”-2014.

Placements

The college has year on year excellent placements.In the placement season 2013-14, the highest salary package had been Rs 3.0 Lakhs per annum(lpa) offered to 28 students by Nile Stream Info Pvt. Ltd.,Coimbatore. TCS has offered 3.2 LPA package to 3 students through off campus placements and rest of students are in good position. Although looking to the placement is not as per expectation but the pass out batches of 2013 and 2014 students are well placed in various public service like barc, hal and most of the student pursuing their mtech studies in various iits, and nits.../

Examination

Registration is required at the beginning of each semester. Students are allowed to appear for examination for registered courses only, and should consult with the respective department heads for guidance before registration. Students are eligible to appear for examinations provided they attend a minimum of 75 per cent of their theory, practical, and sessional classes scheduled during the semester.

Events

This college supports a number of events for students to enjoy and to explore their area of interest.

MAJESTA is the college's cultural extravaganza, held annually in APRIL 26 on the birth ceremony of Maharaja Krushna ch. Gajapati.
TYRUS is the freshers' party of the college.
ANSALONAE is the annual technical festival.
ARENA is the athletic meet.
DARBAR being the annual magazine.
ROBOSTREAKS is the robotics club cum society.
FLAMINGO is the literary & creative society.
