Para vestir santos (Spanish: For dressing holy men) was a 2010 Argentine miniseries, produced by Pol-Ka and aired by El Trece. It was starred by Gabriela Toscano, Celeste Cid and Griselda Siciliani. "Para vestir santos" is an expression for the fate of spinsters. The miniseries received the Golden Martín Fierro Award.

Production

Para vestir santos features several musical numbers. All the lead actresses had previous experience with the genre. Griselda Siciliani studied dance and sing, worked in the theater musicals Revista Nacional, Sweet Charity and Quiero llenarme de ti, and the television musical Patito Feo. Gabriela Toscano made her first work in a musical. Celeste Cid worked in the musical video "Asesíname" by Charly García, and Gloria Carrá is a musical artist.[1]

The series portrays Celeste Cid's character in a lesbian relation. Although the Argentine television had antecedents of homosexual characters in fiction, it was rarely a main character as in this case. The series was contemporary to the sanction of the same-sex marriage in Argentina.[2]

Plot

Gloria, a widow, has a sudden death. Her three daughters, Susi, Virgi and Male, are single and fear that they may become spinsters. The miniseries follow their multiple attempts of starting a romantic relation. Their sister-in-law María Eugenia, the villain of the story, sold the house of their parents upon their mother's death.

Reception

The first episode, aired on April 21, 2010, got 19.1 rating points.[3]

The miniseries received the Golden Martín Fierro award, as well as 8 other Martín Fierro awards. It was awarded as best miniseries, best scripts and best direction. Gabriela Toscano, Celeste Cid and Griselda Siciliani were all nominated as best lead actress of miniseries, the award was given to Toscano. Hugo Arana was awarded as best secondary actor, being nominated with Fernand Miras and Luis Machin. Betiana Blum was awarded as the best secondary actress. Ricardo Darín received the award for best guest appearance, nominated along with Gabriel Goity. Martina Gusman was awarded as best new actress, being nominated with Pilar Gamboa. The program had unsuccessful nominations for best theme song and best production.[4]
