Pan-Asia International School, or PAIS, is an International School located in Prawet District, Bangkok, Thailand,[1] and a member of the International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT).[2] Established in 2004, PAIS aims to provide quality international education built upon American standards with a strong emphasis on eastern culture[3] to over 370 students representing more than 41 different nations of origin.[4]
PAIS is located in the heart of a rapidly growing area about 10 kilometers from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok's Pravet district, 20 kilometers from the city's center.[5] PAIS features a variety of modern educational facilities such as a large auditorium with purpose-built stage, two fully equipped science laboratories, a music room, a full-sized swimming pool, a full-service library/media center, an I.T. lab, a covered basketball/volleyball court, a football pitch, fun playgrounds and a mini swimming pool for Kindergarten students.[4]
Education
PAIS now offers classes from pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Curriculum
The PAIS curriculum is built upon American standards and is directly derived from the official curriculum of Massachusetts state.[2] PAIS is currently accredited[6] by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is also authorized for the IB Diploma Program.[4]
Uniform
For Kindergarten, the uniform consists of light grey shorts or skirts, white socks, formal shoes, light shirts with orange-striped collars and a waist-coat. In Elementary, the uniform is the same but darker grey and the boys wear grey-striped ties. Sports uniform for all students consists of black tracksuit pants and sneakers. The Kindergarten wear a horizontally striped orange, white, red and blue polo shirt while Elementary wear a house T-shirt of the colour of their house; blue, green, red, or yellow.[4]
School calendar and events
The school year is divided into two semesters. The first semester runs from mid-August to mid-December and students observe the Eid al-Fitr Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, and Eid al-Adha as well as Loy Krathong. The first semester culminates in a celebration of International Day with performances and displays. The second semester runs from January to mid-June and includes Sports Day, Makha Bucha, Songkran Holidays, Earth Day and Graduation Day for Kindergarten 3 classes.[4]
House system
The House System is currently used in PAIS. Students are assigned to either the Blue, Green, Red or Yellow house and compete for points, notably at the annual Sports Day. Representatives from each house are chosen to form a Student Council.[3]
New developments
In 2009 plans were developed to expand the school by constructing new kindergarten and primary buildings within the next two years.[4]
