Palvancha (or Palwancha or Paloncha) is a city in Khammam district in the Indian state of Telangana, 290 km east of Hyderabad. It is principally an important industrial centre and is nicknamed the Power City. It is a Mandal headquarters, and a principle Revenue and Forest Divisional headquarters. Kothagudem Thermal Power station (KTPS), Nava Bharat Ventures Limited (NBV) (Formerly known as Nava Bharat Ferro Alloys (NBFA)), Sponge Iron India Limited (SIIL) now with NMDC are the industries here. There is also a heavy water plant located nearby.

Importance In History

Ramadasu was the prominent person from Palvancha Tani Shah (last ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, who ruled the kingdom of Golconda) hired him as "Tehsildar" (head of the revenue department) of Palvancha taluk.Palvancha is considered as the oldest taluk in khammam district which existed much earlier than its sister town Kothagudem which was started only after singareni had started . State Highway No.12 passes via Paloncha. It is a well planned and maintained Municipality.

The area is endowed with rich forests, industries and landscapes. The nearest railway station is at Kothagudem which is about 12 km away. It was originally named "Bhadrachalam Road", being the closest railway station to Bhadrachalam, an important pilgrimage location of Lord Rama. It is also famous for its record high temperatures during summer, often crossing 50 °C mark. The multipurpose Kinnerasani Dam is also very near to here (12 km). Kinnersani is also famous for its wild life, it is a notified Sanctury.

Demographics

According to India's 2001 census,[1] Palwancha had a population of 68,561. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Palwancha has an average literacy rate of 62.3%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 55%. In Palwancha, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
