Pacific Media Centre
Pacific Media Centre (PMC) is part of the School of Communication Studies at AUT University in Auckland, New Zealand. It was founded in 2007 with a mandate to develop media and journalism research in New Zealand, particularly involving Māori, Pasifika, ethnic and vernacular media topics.[1] Its website hosts a range of Pasifika media resources, including the media freedom monitor Pacific Media Watch and the peer-reviewed research journal Pacific Journalism Review, founded at the [University of Papua New Guinea] in 1994. It is listed by the Human Rights Commission (New Zealand) as a diversity project.[2] and featured by the Panos London Media Development programme for its development communication work.[3] by The centre is also a publisher of Asia-Pacific journalism, media and communication studies books.[4] The most recent book was Communication, Culture and Society in Papua New Guinea: Yo Tok Wanem? published in partnership with the main publisher, Divine Word University Press in Madang, Papua New Guinea.[5] In 2009, it began publishing Pacific Scoop[6] independent news website specialising in Asia-Pacific current affairs in Partnership with Scoop Media Limited.[7] In 2010 PMC was featured as a Creative Commons case study.[8] Founding director of the PMC is Professor David Robie, a New Zealand author, journalist and media academic[9] who won a vice-chancellor's award in 2011 for excellence in university teaching.[10]
