Osvaldo Jeanty

Osvaldo Jeanty (born August 1, 1983 in Haiti) is a male basketball player from Canada, who is a resident of Gloucester, Ontario. He played for the Carleton University Ravens men's basketball team as a guard. Jeanty was named CIS male athlete of the year in 2006, and CIS basketball player of the year in 2006 and 2007.[1] He ended up in seventh place with the Canada national men's basketball team at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Osvaldo has been playing in the European leagues since the 2007–08 season, beginning with the Giants Nördlingen where the team won in the ProA championship.[2] For the 2008–09 season, Jeanty left to play in Morocco, and Romania, but eventually returned to the BBC to join the Giessen 46ers.[2] In 2013, Jeanty plays for the Mitteldeutscher BC in the BBL as a guard.[3]

College career

Jeanty attended Carleton university majoring in commerce.[4] In 2006, he was named the 2006 CIS male athlete of the year, by the Borden Ladner Gervais awards committee, becoming the first of two Carleton Raven student-athletes to do so in its twenty-one year history.[4] Jeanty won Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) titles every year while at Carleton, and was the MVP in four of those five championship games.[5] During the 2005–06 season, he led the Carleton Ravens men`s basketball team to their fourth straight CIS national basketball championship while leading the Ravens in scoring with a total of 326 points, which equates to an average of 14.8 points per game.[4] In addition to being selected to the CIS All-star team during the 2005–06 season, Jeanty was also named the CIS `final 10` tournament MVP thus earning himself every MVP opportunity he could have that season.[4]

Professional play

Jeanty began playing international in the 2007–08 season playing for the Giants Nördlingen in Germany.[2] He contributed to the success of the team that season, and helped them reach the first place in the ProA championship and therefore gaining the team a spot in the BBL.[2] For the 2008–09 season, Jeanty started in Morocco, and then continued playing for CS Gaz Metan Medias in Romania and in January he returned to the BBL to join the Giessen 46ers team where he stayed for the rest of the season. Throughout the 2008–09 season, Jeanty averaged 13.1 points, 2.3 rebounds all while shooting 40.7% of his three point shot attempts.[2] For the 2010–11 seasons, Jeanty remained in the BBL, signing with BBC Bayreuth with a one-year contract which was later extended to 2012.[6] On November 2012, Jeanty left the German league to play with the London Lightning in the National Basketball league of Canada.[7] Jeanty would only spend half a season with the Lightning, averaging 4.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists.[8] Jeanty has returned to the BBL to play with the Mitteldeutscher Basketball club and as a member of the team, averaged 7.5 points per game in the 2012–2013 season.[3]
