There exist two distinct Christian communions known by the appellation "Orthodox," namely the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Oriental Orthodox Church.
The various autocephalous and autonomous churches of the Eastern Orthodox Church are distinct in terms of administration and local culture, but for the most part exist in full communion with one another. Some tensions exist in the philosophical differences between the New Calendarists and the Moderate Old Calendarists.
