Orascom Construction Industries SAE (OCI) is a leading engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor based in Cairo, Egypt, and active in more than 25 countries. The company was Egypt's first multinational corporation, and is one of the core Orascom Group companies.
History
OCI was established in Egypt in 1950 and owned by Onsi Sawiris. OCI owned and operated cement plants in Egypt, Algeria, Turkey, Pakistan, northern Iraq, North Korea and Spain, which had a combined annual production capacity of 21 million tonnes. In December 2007, OCI announced the divestment of its cement group to the French Lafarge.[2] In January 2008, OCI confirmed that the share transfer of 100% of Orascom Building Materials Holding (“OBMH”), the holding company for its cement group assets, to Lafarge had been completed.[3]
OCI is a leading international fertilizer producer and construction contractor and one of the region’s largest corporations with projects and investments across Europe, the Middle East, North America, and North Africa.
OCI's Fertilizer Group is a strategic owner and operator of nitrogen fertilizer plants in Egypt, the Netherlands, the United States, and Algeria with an international distribution platform spanning Europe, North and South America, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Its nitrogen fertilizer operations will reach 7.0 million metric tons of capacity by the end of 2012, positioning OCI among the top global nitrogen-based fertilizer producers. OCI's operations are also capable of producing a combined total of 1.0 million metric tons of melamine and methanol.
Its Construction Group ranks among the world’s top global contractors and undertakes large industrial, infrastructure and select commercial projects for public and private customers principally in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.[4]
The Nile City Towers consist of a pair of 32-floors office buildings, two of the first intelligent buildings in Egypt, implementing the EIB/KNX Building Management System.[5]
