Operation Inmate
During World War II Operation Inmate was the bombardment of Japanese bases on Truk in the Caroline Islands conducted from 12 to 16 June 1945. By this stage in the war, shore bombardment was a highly developed technique.
The bombardment force consisted of Task Group 111.2, a detachment from the British Pacific Fleet. Task Group 111.2 comprised four Task Units:
