OpenGLAM
OpenGLAM is an initiative run by the Open Knowledge Foundation. It promotes free and open access to digital cultural heritage, held by GLAMs: Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums.[1] OpenGLAM is co-funded by the European Commission as part of the DM2E (Digitised Manuscripts to Europeana) project.[2]
The definition of 'Open'
"A piece of data or content is open if anyone is free to use, reuse, and redistribute it - subject only, at most, to the requirement to give credit to the author and/or making any resulting work available under the same terms as the original work".[3]
Aim of the initiative
The aim of the OpenGLAM initiative is to make digitized cultural heritage available to the public as much as possible, allowing users not only to enjoy but also to contribute, share, reuse and remix.[4] OpenGLAM helps cultural institutions to open up their content and data through hands-on workshops, documentation and guidance and it supports a network of open culture evangelists through its Working Group.
