Ondřej Pála (born 20 September 1984) is a Czech professional boxer who currently fights in the heavyweight division.

Amateur career

Pála started boxing at 17 under the lead of trainers Jan Balog and Antonín Hauer. His effort soon brought him the Czech Junior heavyweight title. At young age, he was also trying to compete in Muay Thai and Jiu jistu.

Professional career

He turned professional in Médea boxing team and alongside with his trainer Yuri Krivoruchko, he became one of the top prospects in the heavyweight division. He soon won several belts on the national level. In 2008, he beat the former WBO heavyweight champion Henry Akinwande. After the victory over Aleksey Masikin in March 2011, he became WBO European heavyweight champion and serious contender for the world belts.[1] However in March 2012, he surprisingly lost to Konstantin Airich and his promising career suffered a lot. Pála was thinking about the retirement, but eventually returned to the ring. After two relatively easy fights, he was expected to fight IBF number 1 contender Kubrat Pulev. After the negotiations went down, he got offer from former WBC world title contender Dereck Chisora.[2] Pála had a great start in this match, having two great rounds. In the third round, the referee stopped the match when Pála got into the corner and turned his back after the big pressure from Chisora.[3]
