Omer Kamil

Omar Kamil is a Sri Lankan politician. He was the former Mayor of Colombo and Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran.[1]

Educated at Royal College Colombo, Kamil was elected to the Colombo Municipal Council in 1977 as a council member representing the United National Party. In 1999, he was elected as Mayor of Colombo and served till 2002. There after he served as Sri Lankan Ambassador to Iran. From 2009 to 2011 he served Special Commissioner for Colombo after being appointed chief city administrator of the Colombo Municipal Council.
