Omand's Creek

Omand's Creek runs throughout Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Its surroundings vary, from prairie to box stores. It also runs through Omand Park and Bluestem Nature Park in the Wolseley area, into the Assiniboine River.

Events

Every year in early spring, some people canoe up the creek's full length. The timing for this event must be perfect for the water levels to be just right.

Clean-ups are occasionally organized on the creek, as its shores and waters get quite littered with junk (its main stretch is beside a road and many box stores).

Crime

Recently, Omand's Creek has become associated with violent crime after several teens were robbed and held against their will under a railway bridge over the creek east of the Polo Park Shopping Centre[1] Police speculated that the crime may have been part of a gang initiation.[2]
