Dr. Olivier Brandicourt (13 February 1956 - Casablanca) has been Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer HealthCare AG since 2013.[1] Brandicourt is responsible for leading the company’s healthcare portfolio globally, encompassing pharmaceuticals, consumer care, animal health and medical care businesses.[1]
Career
In February 2015, he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Sanofi, he will assume the new position effective April 2.[2][3][4] His golden handshake of US$4.5 million upon taking on the appointment was criticized by French Ministers Stéphane Le Foll and Ségolène Royal.[5]
Until October 2013 Brandicourt served as a member of the Executive Leadership Team of Pfizer Inc. and consecutively led the firm’s global business units in Specialty, Primary Care, and Emerging Markets and Established Products during his tenure in the United States.[2][6]
Spanning a period of over 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry, including Pfizer and Parke-Davis/Warner-Lambert,[7] Brandicourt previously held various global executive roles in addition to regional management positions across different continents.[6]
He started his career as a physician at the Institute of Infectious and Tropical Diseases of the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, where he worked primarily on malaria.[2] He practised medicine in the Republic of the Congo for two years.[2]
Other work
He is a member of the Council of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA),[8] and member of the Board of Directors and the International Board Committee of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).[9] Brandicourt is also an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London[8] and board member of the Children’s Aid Society in New York.[10]
