Olimpia Carlisi (born 29 December 1946), is an Italian actress.

Life and career

Born in Campi Bisenzio, Florence, after her debut as a stage actress, Carlisi made her film debut working with Roberto Rossellini in Atti degli apostoli (1968) and then with Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet in Othon (1969).[1] She almost entirely focused her career on intellectual and art films and stage works.[1] In 1975 she won a Globo d'oro for best breakthrough actress. In 1978 she was nominated to the BAFTA Award for most promising newcomer thanks to her performance in Alain Tanner's The Middle of the World.[2]

Also active on television, in 1970 she was the protagonist of the RAI experimental drama Olimpia agli amici, directed by the film critic Adriano Aprà.[1] In 1980 she hosted a controversial edition of the Sanremo Music Festival alongside Roberto Benigni and Claudio Cecchetto.[3]
