Oh My English! is a Malaysian comedy and Educational television series which debuted on May 20, 2012, on Astro TVIQ. The TV series is one of the collaborative efforts of the Astro with the Ministry of Education of Malaysia to improve the pronunciation of English among Malaysians. This is also in line with ministry's policy of "Upholding Bahasa Malaysia, Strengthening English" (MBMMBI). Astro worked with the ministry since 2009 to publish world-class learning programs to schools throughout Malaysia through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Kampus Astro. This project has also equipped 10,000 schools in Malaysia with flat-screen television equipment, Astro decoders and 17 education and information channels including History channel, Discovery, National Geographic, Astro Tutor TV, Astro TVIQ and others.[1]

List of characters and personalities

Season 1

A young man aged 27 years old who had just arrived from the UK to teach English at SMK Ayer Dalam. He is friendly and confident in his job. His father is a UK citizen while his mother a Malaysian citizen. Henry moved to the UK when he was 6 years old. His first career choice was as a rock star, but now Henry has interest in the field of education and is ready to face new challenges. However, it is not easy for him to deal with students from Class 3 Merah because of their naughtiness.
She is a great teacher at the SMK Ayer Dalam. Madam Noor Hajar is smart, helpful and courageous. She is also very much loved by the students. She has the difficult job of being the mediator, solving problems between staff and student. Her hobby is street dance. She has a philosophy that a good education is not only dependent on textbooks. Therefore, she encourages her students to love learning in different ways.
He serves as a general guardian or janitor of the school. He aspires to learn English but is embarrassed due to his age. He regrets not taking the opportunity to learn the English language while he was still a student. However, he wants to prove that studying a language can be carried out by all ages.
Encik Mohd. Salleh is assistant principal who is decisive and fierce among students in SMK Ayer Dalam. In fact, teachers at the school also have the same assumptions as the students. He has high ambitions to become headmaster of the school in the future. However, he still has trouble speaking in English properly. He enjoys romance novels, like Mr. Malik. He also has the motto of "Do not a lot of thought, will go crazy".
A happy girl pampered and greeted as "Lynn". She is the prettiest girl in SMK Ayer, and resolves to be admired by everybody around her. She really likes receiving attention and praise from her friends and classmates, but sometimes she feels less confident in herself. She aspires to venture into acting and become a superstar.
Shafiq is very interested in football and want to be playing with 'Harimau Muda' and represent the country. He is the football captain of the school team. However, all this did not stop him wanting to get closer to Azlin, the prettiest girl in SMK Ayer Dalam.
Often referred to as 'mat rock' in his class and has a twin sister, Faiza. His behaviour seems a little strange. He likes to nibble Shafiq until Shafiq got annoyed with him. He has a laid-back attitude and loves to play the guitar.
The twin sister of Faiz. She has a gritty and rugged character. She always tries to protect Faiz because Faiz feels he needs help when dealing with the other boys and their taunting. She loves animals and aspires to become a veterinarian someday. She is also friends with Anusha.
A funny and satirical friend. He is a close friend of Azlin. He is very talkative in class and likes to gossip. He is an expert in the field of fashion and aspires to be a fashion designer. His hobby has made him very popular among the female students. However, he is always being bullied by the boys because of this. He has favorite expressions like "Oh My Gucci".
A close friend to Faiza. Every day, she brings to school her lunch container, so her friends awaiting her arrival could find out what delicious dishes she brought today. She is a girl loved for her forgetful nature and her pleasant manner.
Often regarded as handsome, arrogant and a bully. He is well behaved in front of the teacher, but is difficult when faced with his friends. He likes to bully Mazlee as well as Azlin because of their friendship. He is also interested in Azlin's secrets.
His father owns a grocery store, and later, a restaurant. He also has the potential to be a young entrepreneur. For him, he enjoys the opportunity to open trade at any time. His catch phrase is "Must be able to!" He aspires to be a business man, but also wants to be a spy.
His name is Jamil (or better known as Jibam), a so-called 'Raja Lawak' or class clown. He is careless, and often stumbles. Jamil greatly admires Shafiq and always follows him wherever he goes. He aspired to be a comedian in television shows such as 'Raja Lawak', but his jokes often make no sense.

Season 2

For the second season of this show, the twins, Faiz and Faiza, have moved to another school because their father had transferred jobs. However, four new characters were introduced, consisting of two teachers and two students.

Miss Ayu is a teacher from Terengganu. She is a good person and has a very strong Terengganu accent. The students of 3 Merah thought that Miss Ayu has 3G. She is very pretty and is fond of Mr. Middleton. She teaches Bahasa Malaysia. She speaks fluent Bahasa Malaysia and her English improved dramatically after being coached by Mr Middleton. She also has a good singing voice.
Mr Malik is a Physical Education teacher and leads the football team. He is very strong and firm and is quite funny. He secretly enjoys reading romance novels.
Azlan is a new student who has never hung out with anyone. He often bullies other students and pretends to be good in front of the teacher. He started to communicate with Henry in the end of a Mentorship Programme. He likes motorcycles and aspires to be a poet.
Nurul Farhani (or Hani for short) is a new student from Shah Alam with a bubbly and positive attitude. Hani can always be counted on to help a friend in need. She aspires to be the ambassador of intergalactical relationships. She has the same personality as Anusha's, and occasionally even shares her favourite chocolate, Nestlé Crunch Wafer. It is also shown in Episode 10 that Hani likes Jibam and thinks he is 'cute' when he does K-pop style.

The cast of Oh My English!, along with the collaboration of Liyana Jasmay, Altimet and Sleeq, also created a music video, "Together" in late 2012.

Oh My English! was nominated for the 2015 International Digital Emmy Awards in the Children & Young People category.[2]

Telemovies

Continuing from the end of the last episode of Season 2, a telemovie titled Oh My Ganu! was aired on 27 November 2013, with the special appearance of Zizan Razak and Izzue Islam.

Another telemovie titled Oh My English! Hello America was aired 15 January 2014 on Astro TVIQ and Astro Maya HD.[3]

Oh My English! Villa Isabellaaa! was aired on 27 December 2014 on Astro Maya HD.
