Ognjen Stojanović (Serbian Cyrillic: Огњен Стојановић, born January 24, 1990 in Novi Sad) is a Serbian triathlete.
Early life
Serbia's most successful triathlete, Ognjen B. Stojanovic, born 1990, first got in touch with the sport in 1995 when he was 5 years old. After being diagnosed with bone disease Legg–Calvé–Perthes syndrome, his hip was operated. This limited his physical abilities and as recovery he choosed swimming, and swam competitively for 11 years. He had three ten years old National records and became a National champion in the youth category.[1][2]
Career
After 10 years of competitive swimming, he started practicing all three sports on a daily basis and soon showed promising potential with serious results. In 2006, after just one year of training, he became a national junior champion. As soon as 2007, he won the Nationals senior Champs and European Junior cup in Eilat later that year.
In 2008 Ognjen finished European cup standings on a brilliant second place with 3 podiums and a fabulous win on European cup in Pulpi, Spain with strong field which was almost as a European championships. In addition, he was recognized by ITU Sport Development and participated on Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney on January 2009 where he finished 13th individual and 4th in relays with ITU SD team.
In the same year he became first ever Balkan senior champion in Olympic distance triathlon while he was still in junior category. In 2009, highlight is 4th place from World Senior Championships in Aquathlon from Gold Coast in Australia. He confirmed dominance on Eastern Europe by winning Balkan championships for second time in a row.
So far, Ognjen won third consecutive Balkan senior champions titles, and earn valuable points for Olympic Games spot for London 2012. In July, he was officially on simulation list as a participant on summer Olympics in London.
In 2010 Ognjen won 2 Central European senior cups, all which he entered so Ognjen once again remained unbeaten by a competitor from central – east Europe and Balkan.
From December 2010 Ognjen is coached by Coach Sergio Sanots from Portugal with goals to qualify for Olympic Games in 2012 and with that to became first ever Serbian to compete on triathlon on Olympics.
In 2011, Ognjen won Pan American continental cup in Cartagena, Colombia, which is so far biggest success in Serbian triathlon history.
In 2012, Ognjen won National aquathlon and triathlon Championships. At the ETU European U23 Championship, Ognjen finished 22nd. For the fourth time Ognjen won ETU Balkan Championships which has been held in Elazig, Turkey. Best result so far in his career was bronze medal at the ITU World Aquathlon Championships in Auckland in New Zealand.
In 2013, Ognjen is competing for Triogy Racing in Serbia, and Fasttriatlon CT in Spain. Ognjen debuted in long distance triathlon racing with Half Ironman race Arenales 113 in Elche in Spain with the time of 3:44:55 h where he finished 6th overall. He finished 16th place on ETU European Cup in Holten, Netherlands, and won ITU Balkan Championships for 5th time.
In 2014 Ognjen won both duathlon and triathlon ITU Balkan Championships. Racing the ETU European Cups with best place 6th at the Cup in Riga Ognjen qualified for first 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.
