Official Hot Mess is an American teen pop-rock band formed in 2007 by sisters Kristy and Lindsey Landers. They composed and performed their first songs at age five on a PBS children's television show. Official Hot Mess garnered media attention and a cult following after scoring their first record deal before graduating high school.[1]

The group released their debut album on September 5, 2007 under the recording label King Records, a division of Sony Music Japan.

Official Hot Mess’ music has been featured on MTV’s The Hills , MTV’s jersey Shore, MTV’s My Super Sweet 16, and on The City. Official Hot Mess’ music will be featured on the premiere of Nickelodeon’s show, Gigantic.

The media success of the group continued with Spike TV, a division of MTV Networks, and VH1. The group is known for their single "Welcome 2 L.A.", [3] a song about the boulevards of broken dreams that line the City of Angels. The music video for “Welcome 2 LA” peaked at #2 on MTVU.[2]

History

Tours and performances

The band toured Japan in 2007 following the successful release of their debut album Fallin' Angel. Fallin' Angel escalated to the top of the hits record chart in Asia, Australia and parts of Europe.

The band has performed alongside many of today's top artists. Official Hot Mess supported We The Kings in February 2009. Official Hot Mess continued their road to stardom, as the opening act for Mitchel Musso in August, 2009. In September 2009, Official Hot Mess played at the Florida Theater with the Bangles. The following month, the band performed at the Playboy Mansion's Halloween Extravaganza on October 31, 2009 with American singer-songwriter, and record producer Kevin Rudolf, Ja Rule, The Wu Tang Clan and Bubba Sparxxx at the Playboy Mansion.

In February 2010, Official Hot Mess co-headlined at The Playboy Mansion’s Game Day 2010 celebration with Plies, and Young Berg at the Playboy Mansion. In the same year, the band returned to the Playboy Mansion to perform with American rapper, songwriter and actress Lil' Kim at the Mansion's Stars & Stripes [3] charity fund raising party benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project,[4] Austin Children's Shelter,[5] 100 Club of Central Texas,[6] A Blanket of Hope,[7] and Ride for the Heart Foundation.[8]

In October 2010, Official Hot Mess co-headlined with Ray J and Kevin Rudolf at Super Models Unlimited Magazine's 10th Anniversary All Star Celebration held at The Music Box in Hollywood.[9] Official Hot Mess also performed with Grammy nominated rapper, Flo Rida, at The Most Beautiful Gala held at Mansion in Miami Beach, Florida.[10] Official Hot Mess co-headlined with Platinum recording artist, Mike Posner, on November 12, 2011 at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

Official Hot Mess’ music has been featured on MTV’s The Hills, MTV’s jersey Shore, MTV’s My Super Sweet 16, and on The City. Their new single, "Money Makes the Girl$ Go Round" has been licensed by E!'s "Keeping Up with the Kardashians", MTV's "The Real World", and ShowTime's "The Real Word".

Music videos

The band's music video created from their first single, Welcome 2 LA, was premiered on MTVU on April 30, 2010.[2] It reached the number 2 spot on MTVU and held its #2 spot for two weeks beginning May 2. It was also featured in YouTube's "Rising Videos".[11] Official Hot Mess has been viewed on dozens of online journalism sites, streaming media and received great reviews from MTV Buzzworthy.[12] The video's action is set at a Hollywood Hills mansion full of wishful stars, hanging out with reality icon video stars such as Public Enemy (and "Flavor of Love" star) Flavor Flav and "America's Next Top Model" winner and "The Surreal Life" veteran Adrianne Curry. In 2010 the music video was featured on E! News and began airing on FUSE on Demand. The music video was featured on the cover of America Online on May 30 and Window Media's Popaholic on June 2.

Official Hot Mess released a new single, "Money Makes the Girl$ Go Round" as a follow-up to their debut single/music video. The song premiered on AOL Music and AOL Radio.[14] The music video for "Money Makes the Girl$ Go Round" premiered on MTV and MTVU 1/21/11 [15] Since the video's release,the "Money Makes the Girl$ Go Round" music video has been #1 on MTV Music's Top 100, and MTVU's "Most Watched Video".[16] The single, "Money Makes the Girl$ Go Round" is one of Amazon's Best Selling Mp3s [17]

On the big screen, Kristy and Lindsey Landers-Niedenfuer, the front women of Official Hot Mess, costarred with Andy Dick in the comedy, Kissing Strangers [25] and had lead roles in The Brotherhood V: Alumni.[25] Lindsey appeared as a child on the Huggabug Show.

Official Hot Mess has been featured in several magazines: In May 2009 they were published in WQ and Sarasota Pet. In the fall 2010, the group was featured in FG, Portrait, and Glam Rock. In May 2010, the band was featured on the cover of Steppin' Out. The band was featured in T.V. Guide in June 2010.

Philanthropy

The band will also be featured in advertising for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) in 2010. Kristy and Lindsey Landers-Niedenfuer (The Landers Sisters) [26] have been vegetarians since birth and are animal activists themselves, being volunteers for the Humane Society.

The band shot an enlightening advertising campaign for The Hollywood Reporter supporting Clean Oceans scheduled for August 2010. Clean Oceans is an environmentalism campaign formed to encourage young people to help keep the beaches and oceans clean by picking up trash, and not using plastic grocery bags or disposable plastic water bottles.

In May 2010, they completed a photo shoot for the NOH8 Campaign. The NOH8 Campaign is a silent protest photo project against California Proposition 8. The campaign features photographs portraying people in front of a white backdrop wearing white t-shirts, their mouths taped shut and "NOH8" painted on their cheeks. The campaign was created on February 1, 2009 by photographers Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley. The photos are featured on the campaign's website, Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, MySpace, as well as a virtual world campaign in Second Life. Kristy and Lindsey Landers-Niedenfuer are the daughters of actress Judy Landers and MLB pitcher Tom Niedenfuer of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
