Odhise Grillo

Odhise Grillo (Οδυσσέας Γρίλλος in Greek) (1932-2003) was a well-known Albanian children's writer of Greek descent.

Biography

Grillo was born in 1932 in Vuno, a Greek village in southern Albania, where he went to elementary school. He completed his middle school and high school in Tirana. In 1962 he graduated at the Faculty of Philology as well as at the Faculty of Law at the University of Tirana.[1]

He started to work at the humour magazine, Hosteni. and later at the Naim Frashëri Publishing House as an editor for children's publications until he retired, although he went back to editing and writing at the Publishing House "Toena". He has publications in the magazines Drita, "Nëntori", "Ylli", "Zëri i Rinisë", Hosteni,[2] Pionieri, "Fatosi", "Yllkat", and "Bota e fëmijëve". He has been president of the International Association of Children's Writers. He has been a professor at the University of Tirana and the Aleksandër Xhuvani University. He is a recipient of many literary national prizes organized in Albania. Internationally has been translated in Greek, Macedonian, Italian, French, Dutch, and Arabic.[1]

In 2013 Milaim Nelaj published a monography about Grillo.[3]

Grillo died on September 24, 2003 in Tirana, Albania.
