"Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)" is a song recorded by Hillsong United first released on their album Zion. In the United States, the song spent 48 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart, starting in December 2013, and it was the top song of 2014 on the chart. An EP, Oceans, included the original, radio, Red Rocks live, and remix versions of this song, as well as a video of it from Elevate. The lead vocalist on the song was Hillsong member Taya Smith.[1] On 30 September 2014, a Spanish version of the song was released to digital retailers.[2] Smith also sings this version.

Cover versions

Selena Gomez released a cover of the song on her Instagram account on 22 August 2014.[3]

Deanna Johnson from season 8 of The Voice U.S. performed the song during the Top 12, and was released to the iTunes Store on 13 April 2015.[4]

Chart performance

"Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart. The song stayed atop the chart for 45 consecutive weeks until it was overtaken in October 2014 by Carrie Underwood's song "Something in the Water".[5] "Oceans" remained high on the chart at the end of 2014; it was listed at No. 3 on 27 December 2014 chart.[6] Billboard named it as the number one song on the Hot Christian Songs chart for 2014.[7] The song returned to number 1 on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart for the chart week ending 18 April 2015.

Awards

The song won many of the main categories at the 2014 GMA Dove Awards. It won the "Song of the Year", "Contemporary Christian Performance of the Year", "Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year", "Worship Song of the Year", and Hillsong United was named the "Artist of the Year".[12]
