Ocean Vuong (born October 14, 1988) is an American poet and essayist. He is a recipient of the 2014 Ruth Lilly/Sargent Rosenberg fellowship from the Poetry Foundation.

Personal life

Vuong was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in 1988 and immigrated to the United States in 1990.[1]

He currently lives in Astoria, Queens, New York.[2]

Career

Vuong received his B.A. in Nineteenth Century English Literature at Brooklyn College, CUNY, where he studied under the tutelage of poet and novelist Ben Lerner.[3][4]

His poems and essays have been published in various journals including Poetry,[5] The Nation,[6] Tri-Quarterly,[7] Guernica,[8] The Rumpus,[9] and Boston Review.[10]

His first chapbook, Burnings (Sibling Rivalry Press), was a 2011 “Over The Rainbow” selection for notable LGBTQ books by the by American Library Association.[11] His second chapbook, No (YesYes Books), was released in 2013.[12]

His debut full-length collection, Night Sky With Exit Wounds, is forthcoming from Copper Canyon Press (2016).[13]
