Oaklands School is a private independent school in Loughton on the outskirts of North East London and Essex. The school was founded in 1937. Traditionally the school was all girls from key stage two, but was made coeducational in 2010 and shall be fully coeducational next academic year (2014-2015).
According to the website, "Oaklands School is one of the longest established preparatory schools in the Epping Forest area. It was founded on the corner of Traps Hill, Loughton in 1937 by Miss L E Lord, and moved to its present site in Albion Hill in September 1944. The house, then called Firbank, was built in 1837 and the iron railings around the main field go back to the 1870s. Around 1900 Firbank was owned by the Spurge family and a wedding photograph shows the marriage of Florence Spurge to Booth Harris of Albion House."[5]
In July 2013 a Sundial was set up, as a gift from leavers, as presented by the official year six parents association representative, who said it would be more memorable than the traditional tree planted each year.
The 11+ results in 2013 were the best ever recorded for the school (as of 2014) with 36 places and 2 scholarships to independent schools from a class of 13 girls.[6]
