Nutopia (production company)

Nutopia is an independent production company established in 2008 with offices in London and Washington, D.C. It specialises in making documentary television programmes.

The company was founded by Jane Root, former president of the Discovery Channel USA and Controller of BBC2 and Laura Franses, who left the company in 2012. Other board members include Michael Jackson and Peter Bazalgette.[1] It produced the 12-hour America: The Story of Us series for History US,[1] and has since worked on projects for History USA,[2] Discovery USA and National Geographic[3] and, in the UK, with Channel 4, the BBC and Sky Atlantic. In 2012, Nutopia was ranked number 11 in the top 30 UK ‘True’ Independent Production Companies and twentieth in Televisual's Top 100 Production poll.
