Nuova Pallacanestro Gorizia was an Italian basketball club based in Gorizia. The club was active from 1934 to 1999 under the name Unione Ginnastica Goriziana and from 1999 to 2010 as Nuova Pallacanestro Gorizia.
History
Union Ginnastica Goriziana was founded in 1868 when Gorizia was part of the Habsburg Empire. The first official game of basketball (in the archives) was played in the city May 24, 1920 and since then basketball became a recreational activity practiced outdoors and on gravel courts. In 1934 was officially Union Ginnastics Goriziana's (UGG) basketball section that 10 years later came the first national championship (1944/1945) and the following year the first series A (at that time still divided by regional groupings).
After a brief appearance in the championships after the war, in Serie B 1951-1952 came second winning promotion and then took part for the first time the Series A (no longer divided by regional groupings) in 1952-53, retreating after two seasons in 1953-1954. After a long and downs, the team kept its place among Series A1 and Series A2 for fifteen years. In recent years, the Goriziana also plays in 1978–79 FIBA Korać Cup, reaching the top 16 group stage with teams like Partizan, Hapoel Haifa and Olympique Antibes and the Italian club ranked second with a 3-3 record.
In 1989-90 the team relegated to Serie B1, then return in the cadet championship in 1994-95. In 1998-99 biancoblu play for the last time in the A1: at the end of the season to give the title to Scavolini Pesaro and are forced to start from the B1 through the transfer in Gorizia Basketball Association Udinese APU Massimo Paniccia. At the end of the 2006-07 season, Gorizia relegated to Serie B2. At the end of the 2008-09 season the team relegated to Serie C1.
In September 2010, on the eve of the first day, with considerable delay on the roadmap, the club announces the resignation to take part in the Serie C1 due to lack of sponsorship.
