Nuestra Belleza México 1998
The 5th Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held for the second consecutive time at the Salon Teotihuacan of the Centro Internacional de Convenciones Acapulco of Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico on September 19, 1998. Thirty-two contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, it was the first back to back victories in Nuestra Belleza Mexico history: Silvia Salgado from Nuevo León was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Katty Fuentes also from Nuevo León. Salgado competed in Miss Universe 1999 where she was a semifinalist in the Top 10. She was the second Neoleonesa to win this Title.
The Nuestra Belleza Mundo México title was won by Vilma Zamora from Guanajuato, who later competed in Miss World 1998. Zamora was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza Mundo México titleholder Blanca Soto. She was the first Guanajuatense to win this Title.

Historical Significance
- Nuevo León won the Nuestra Belleza México title for the second consecutive time. It was the first back to back in Nuestra Belleza México's History.
- Guanajuato won the Nuestra Belleza Mundo México title for the first time.
- Tabasco was the Suplente/1st Runner-up for the first time.
- After two years of carrying out the competition "Nuestra Belleza Mexico: Rumbo a Miss Mundo" in the night semifinal, this year chose the two queens in the final competition.
- Also for the first time the event took place in an own massive event, and that from 1994 to 1997 this was carried out in the Sunday program Siempre en Domingo.
- For the first time in the history of the contest was a tie in the top 10 among Yucatán and Chihuahua, ending in a Top 11.
- Distrito Federal, Jalisco and Nuevo León placed for fifth consecutive year.
- Pueba and Quintana Roo returned to making calls to the semifinals after four years (1994) while Chihuahua and Yucatán after two years (1996).
- States that were called to the semifinals last year and this year failed to qualify were Aguascalientes, Baja California, Campeche, Colima, Durango, Estado de México, Morelos, Sinaloa and Tamaulipas.
- Marco Antonio Regil hosted the pageant for the first time with Lupita Jones.
- Nuevo León won Miss Photogenic for second consecutive year and Mary Kay Face Award for the first time.
- The host delegate, Paulina Crofton from Guerrero, failed to place in the semifinals.
- Baja California (Lucero Barajas) is the higher delegate in this edition (1.83 m).
- Chiapas (Nubia León), Hidalgo (Gabriela Pérez), Morelos (Arlette Natera), Oaxaca (Marbella López), Sonora (Lina Samaniego) and Tlaxcala (Fabiola Sánchez) are the lower delegates in this edition (1.68 m).
Contestants Notes
Colima - Denisse Guzmán was selected by the organization of Nuestra Belleza México to participate in the contest Miss Costa Maya International 1998 in Belize where she won the 1st place.
Distrito Federal - Karla Blancarte competed in the Reinado Internacional de las Flores 1999.
Guanajuato - Vilma Zamora represented her country in Miss World 1998, held at the Lake Berjaya Mahé Resort in Mahé Island, Seychelles on November 26, 1998 but she didn't place. She also represented Mexico in Hondurasin Señorita Continente Americano 1998 where she won 2nd place.
Guerrero - Paulina Crofton died in a traffic accident in 1999. She and her boyfriend Oliver Rodriguez Vera, were riding in a convertible that went out of control on a highway in Acapulco and crashed into rocks.
Jalisco - Alejandra Morales participated en the contest Reinado Internacional del Bambuco 1998 held in Colombia where she won the award as Ambassador of Tourism and International Folklore.
Nuevo León - Silvia Salgado represented Mexico in the annual Reinado Internacional del Café on January, 1999 in Manizales, Colombia. Despite being her one of the favorites for the crown, their participation was marred by getting the flu during your stay in the contest which looked sad, failing to qualify for the semifinals, but she was Queen of Journalists and Jollie Vogue Face in the contest. Months after she represented her country and placed among the semifinalists in Miss Universe 1999, held at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre in Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago, on May 26, 1999. Actually she is married with Businessman Antonio Quiroga Rodríguez.
