The 4th Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held at the Salon Teotihuacan of the Centro Internacional de Convenciones Acapulco of Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico on September, 1997. Thirty-two contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, which was won by Katty Fuentes from Nuevo León, who later competed in Miss Universe 1998. Fuentes was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Rebeca Tamez. She was the first Neoleonesa to win this Title.
The Nuestra Belleza Mundo México title was won by Blanca Soto from Morelos, who later competed in Miss World 1997. Soto was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza Mundo México titleholder Yessica Salazar. She is the first and only short hair to win as well she was the first Morelense to win this Title.
For the second consecutive time, two events were held separately to select the two winners for the titles Nuestra Belleza México and Nuestra Belleza Mundo México.

Nuestra Belleza Mundo México
One week before the final competition was held the semifinal competition with a live show entitled "Nuestra Belleza Mexico: Rumbo a Miss Mundo" in which was announced the winner of the Nuestra Belleza Mundo México title Blanca Soto from Morelos who represented the country in Miss World 1997. All contestants competed in swimsuit and evening gown during the contest.
The Nuestra Belleza Mundo México pageant was held at the Salon Teotihuacan of the Centro Internacional de Convenciones Acapulco in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico and was hosted by Raúl Velasco and Karina Velasco. It was the 2nd edition of the "Nuestra Belleza Mundo México" contest and as an official separate pageant to choose Mexico's representative to Miss World. Although the Winner of this event also competed in the final night competition, but finished as Suplente/1st Runner-up.
The musical part was enlivened by: Paulina Rubio.

Historical Significance
- Nuevo León won the Nuestra Belleza México title for the first time.
- Morelos won the Nuestra Belleza Mundo México title for the first time.
- This was the third time a Winner of Nuestra Belleza México pageant is not born in the state that represents, (Blanca Soto was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León).
- This year the crown of Nuestra Belleza Mundo México suffers his first change, this new model would continue only this year. The new crown was not the public taste, so a change was made again to the crown, finishing in the model would continue until 2009.
- For the first time in the contest was held the parade of states at the beginning of the pageant.
- For second time in the semifinal competition is chosen Nuestra Belleza Mundo México through Nuestra Belleza México: Rumbo a Miss Mundo.
- The Winner of Nuestra Belleza Mexico: Rumbo a Miss Mundo is also involved in the final competition, more not if it will win the title of Nuestra Belleza México, the right to represent México in Miss World would become the 1st Runner-up of the semifinal competition.

- Morelos - Blanca Soto was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León but she represented the State of Morelos in the National Contest. She won the right to represent Mexico in Miss World 1997 held at the Baie Lazare, Seychelles on November 22, 1997, but she didn't place. She participated in Miss Verano Viña del Mar 1998 in Chile where she won the 1st place. She has been married to American actor Jack Hartnett since 2007. She was Eva Gonzales in the telenovela of Univision called Eva Luna and will star in the telenovela of Univision called "Talisman" in 2011-2012.
- Nuevo León - Katty Fuentes won Miss Clairol Style Award and the third placement in the National Costume Competition in Miss Universe 1998 held at Stan Sheriff Arena, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA on May 12, 1998 but she didn't place to the semifinals. Actually she lives in Dallas, Texas.
- Tabasco - Karla Corral Salomón was Flor más Bella de Tabasco 1994 And represented Mexico in Reinado Internacional del Café 1998 held in Manizales, Colombia.
