"Naeil-eun eobs-eo" (Korean: "내일은 없어 (Now)", lit. "No Tomorrow") or "Now",[1] is a 2013 K-pop song by South Korean duo Trouble Maker, who consists of Hyuna from 4Minute and Hyunseung from Beast; it is taken from their second EP, Chemistry, released on October 28.

Promotion and release

On October 4, 2013, Cube revealed that Trouble Maker will make their comeback. A representative confirmed the comeback date to be the October 24 episode of Mnet's M! Countdown: "As it has been a while since they were active as a unit, the both of them are fully engaged in practice and very nervous."[2]

On October 23, the duo released a teaser video and photo which showed a sexy concept. The agency confirmed the release date of October 24, and the title track will be called "There Is No Tomorrow".[3] They eventually released the single on October 28.[4]

Trouble Maker promoted "There Is No Tomorrow" on October 30 on MBC Music's Show Champion[5] They would then follow up with performances on Mnet's M! Countdown, KBS's Music Bank, MBC's Show! Music Core and SBS's Inkigayo.[6][7]

Musical style, writing, composition

"There's No Tomorrow" is a fantasy-like track that "displays the characteristics of saxophone sound and strings, portraying relationship of a theatrical couple, on the other hand, resembling a monodrama".[8]

Music video

The video was directed by Lee GiBeak who also directed Beast's "Caffeine", "Shadow (Geurimja)" and "I'm Sorry". On October 24, 2013, the music video teaser for "There Is No Tomorrow" was released, with the full version on October 28.[9]

The music video has a “Bonnie and Clyde” theme.[1] Kpopstarz.com wrote that the video "reflects the decadence of life in the fast lane, most specifically in American culture. The video opens with the duo drinking profuse amounts of Budweiser and Hyunseung waking from a bed where he is draped with foreign women. In essence both the song and the video provide far more social commentary than what the duo was previously known for."[10]

The choreography was done by Keone Madrid and Mariel Madrid, who have worked with Urban Dance Camp in Germany.[11]

On November 3, Trouble Maker has released an uncut version of their music video. An Allkpop article describes it as "double the length of the original MV, and features even more steamy scenes with the two artists, bringing their fans even more of their lush emotions and sexy chemistry".[12]

Charts

On October 28, "Now" reached number one on Korea's ten music charts (Melon, Mnet, Olleh Music, Bugs, Soribada, Monkey3, Naver Music, Cyworld Music, GENIE and Daum Music) within two hours of its release and was certified by Instiz.net as an "All-Kill".[13][14] On November 7, 2013, 'Now' debuted at number 1 on the GAON chart.[15] The song reached the top of the Billboard K-Pop 100 for the date of November 16, 2013.[16]

The song also received numerous first place award in various music show broadcasts, a double crown in Mnet's M! Countdown (November 7, 14)[17] and in KBS Music Bank (November 8,15),[18] in MBC Music Core (November 9),[19] in SBS Inkigayo (November 10)[20] and a triple crown in MBC Music Show Champion (November 6, 13, 20).[21]
