The November 2007 California wildfires were a group of 2 wildfires that ignited in Southern California on November 24, 2007. The Corral Fire and Haverford Fire burned a total of 4,926 acres of land; the larger Corral Fire was burning in Malibu while the smaller Haverford Fire was burning in Ramona. The rapid spread of the Corral Fire forced the evacuation of 10,000-14,000 residents in Los Angeles, and injured 7 firefighters. After only a few days, however, both fires were fully contained.
Wildfires
Corral Fire
The recurrence of powerful Santa Ana Winds caused the Corral Fire to ignite in Malibu Creek State Park, Los Angeles, on November 24 at 3:24 AM PST. The Corral Fire rapidly expanded, and soon reached a size of 4,901 acres (1,983 ha). 51 structures were destroyed, including 49 homes, with another 27 damaged.[2][3] California officials have deployed 1,700 firefighters, 12 fixed-wing aircraft, and 15 helicopters to the region, along with firefighting gear. 7 firefighters received minor injuries. The Corral Fire was said to be caused by the Santa Ana winds, which gusted up to 60 mph (96 km/h) on November 24. On November 25, the Corral Fire was 70% contained.[3][4] Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger reactivated the state of emergency on November 24, which was declared during last months wildfires to "...(provide) any needed resources to fight these fires or help those Californians who have been impacted."[5] During the morning of November 27, at 8:00 AM PST, the Corral Fire was reported to be 100% contained.
Haverford Fire
At 9:50 AM PST, the Haverford Fire was reported in Ramona, just off Highway 78. The Haverford Fire was extinguished during the night of November 24, at 9:00 PM PST, after reaching 25 acres (10 ha).
