Notre Dame University Bangladesh is a non-profit private university situated in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established by the Roman Catholic Priests from the Congregation of Holy Cross with Government approval received on April 29, 2013.[1][2] The goal of Notre Dame University is to open the way for a society which will promote optimism and peace by providing quality and meaningful education among students through a holistic approach to teaching and other academic activities. The constituting values of this University are: pursuit of truth, rational thinking, respect for human dignity, non-violence, social responsibility, commitment to human development, solidarity, justice, peace and charity, gender equality, global unity and respect for Creation.

History

Though Notre Dame University was established in 2013, it has a long history. When Notre Dame College, Dhaka, was establihed in 1949, there was also plans for establishing a University. On April 29, 2013, by an ordinance of Education Ministry, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh granted its approval to establish the university and to function it under the Private University Act of 1992 and as amended in 1998.[3] Notre Dame University began its academic activities in the fall of 2014.

Campus

Dr. Kamal Hossain, an honorary fellow of NDUB, was speaking at the Orientation Ceremony for the 2nd batch of Notre Dame University Bangladesh on 30 January 2015.

Notre Dame University Bangladesh was granted 1.20 acres land by Notre Dame College, Dhaka, to build the permanent campus for the university. A 20-storied building was proposed to built for its permanent campus. An effort is underway to raise the necessary funding from both foreign and local benefactors to build the university building.[4]
