Northwest Fur Trader

Northwest Fur Trader was an educational software program for the Unisys ICON computer. It simulated a fur trading expedition in northern Canada. It was one of the most popular programs on the ICON, and often used as a demo during sales efforts. Unlike most contemporary resource allocation simulations, like Hamurabi or The Oregon Trail, Northwest Fur Trader was primarily graphical, based on a map drawn using the built-in NAPLPS graphics system and the trackball for moving the icon representing the party's canoes. The player could stop at any point and then select from a number of commands, such as hunting for food, trapping for furs, etc.
