NC 132 is a North Carolina State Highway entirely within New Hanover County. It travels from US 117/NC 133 south to the eastern terminus of Interstate 40 (exit 420).
Route description
NC 132 begins at US 421 north of Myrtle Grove. NC 132 heads north towards UNC Wilmington from US 421. NC 132 starts a concurrency with US 117 south of US 76. NC 132/US 117 intersects US 76 at one of the busiest intersections in Wilmington. NC 132/ US 117 continues west of UNC Wilmington. NC 132/US 117 intersects US 17 Business with an at grade exit. NC 132/US 117 intersects US 74 (Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway) at a stoplight. NC 132/US 117 continues onto Interstate 40 very shortly before exiting off Exit 420. NC 132/US 117 parallels Interstate 40 until NC 132 reaches its terminus in Castle Hayne.
History
NC 132 was born in 1958 as new routing running the same way it does currently. In 1983 NC 132 was rerouted along new freeway from Exit 420 to US 117 near Wallace. In 1984 NC 132 was removed from the freeway routing and was placed back on the same routing it has currently. The freeway was renumbered as Interstate 40. [1]
