Norske Skog Parenco B.V. is the only Magazine print producer in the Netherlands, located at Renkum, near the Rhine. The first paper mill was built on the site in 1720, with the current mill built by Van Gelder Zonen in the beginning of the 20th century. In 1984 Haindl Paper took over the company and in 2001, Parenco became a part Norske Skogindustrier.

Operation

One paper machine (PM) have a combined production capacity of 260,000 tonnes of magazine paper per year, with 260 employees. For the production of newsprint, the mill uses recovered paper. The recovered paper mainly comes from waste paper collected at households. The Netherlands rank among the top recycling countries in the world. From the total amount of waste paper recycling in the Netherlands (approximately 77%), Norske Skog Parenco reproduces some 16% into new paper.

In addition, improved newsprint grades NorX and Norbright are also procuded. Norbright has an increased whiteness, varying from 65 to 72% ISO, and can be used for both heat set as cold set printing. NorX (with whiteness varying from 59, 68 and 72% ISO) is specifically designed for heat set and flexo printing, providing a glossy look, enhanced print contrast and increased dot sharpness. These improved newsprint grades are ideal for the printing of catalogues, magazines and supplements, direct mail and other advertising media.

Norske Skog Parenco’s main markets are the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom and Ireland.

Economic crisis

Because of the late-2000s recession the demand for newsprint has fallen dramatically. In 2009 Norske Skog Parenco is using only one of its two paper machines. At a meeting at the Papendal Sports Center in Arnhem on 9 December 2009, 170 of the 425 employees (40 percent) received a message that they were to be laid off.[1] in oct 2012 a Dutch investment group H2 bought Parenco from Norske Skog. The papermill is now called Parenco BV.
