"Norland Wind" is a limited edition collaborative single by Scottish indie rock band Frightened Rabbit and folk band Lau, released on 20 April 2013 on both Atlantic Records and Reveal Records. The single was released in conjunction with Record Store Day 2013, and limited to 500 copies on 7" vinyl.[1]

Written by Jim Reid and Violet Jacob, the single was self-produced by Frightened Rabbit, and recorded with early collaborator and producer Marcus McKay at the Diving Bell Lounge, where the band recorded its first studio album, Sing the Greys (2007).

The single's b-side features the song's lyrics etched into the vinyl.

Background

Regarding the track, Frightened Rabbit vocalist and guitarist Scott Hutchison stated: "'Norland Wind' is a cover of Scottish folk song. The cover has been performed with Lau. If you don’t already know their music you should investigate! The lyrics were originally a poem by Violet Jacob, which was later set to music by the folk artist Jim Reid. I still remember the day I fell for this song whilst on a train down to London. I felt it mirrored a lot of the things I was trying to say in "Scottish Winds" (strangely, written before I heard "Norland Wind") and it immediately struck a chord."[2]

Other appearances

The track previously appeared as a b-side to those who pre-ordered the single, "Backyard Skulls", on iTunes.[2]
