Nirma University, popularly known as NU (NU), is an autonomous university located in Ahmedabad,Gujarat,India. It functions under the aegis of Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF).Nirma University is a statutory university established under the state act.

History

Nirma University is the oldest private university in the state of Gujarat.^[2] It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2 (f) of the UGC Act and has also been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The Government of Gujarat in 2003 approved the proposal of NERF to grant the status of a University under a special act passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly. Subsequently the University established three more institutes, the Institute of Pharmacy in 2003, the Institute of Science in 2004 and the Institute of Law in 2007. The NERF chaired by Dr Karsanbhai Patel is a trust. ^[3]

Campus

Nirma University Campus is situated on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway near Gota, at the outskirts of Ahmedabad. It is spread over 125 acres.

Library Resource Centre The library provides access to a wide range of technological, management and business information sources that include leading national and international research journals and periodicals in addition to an impressive collection of databases, electronic media, project reports and CDs. The libraries are fully computerized, accessible on the campus LAN and operate on specialized library software ‘Alice for Windows’. The user- friendly package facilitates issue and return of books, online access to the catalogue and reservation of books. The libraries have adopted the latest information technologies like CD, DVD, Multimedia Kits, Barcode Scanners and Text and Graphic Scanners for effective use of the library services.

Other Facilities The Campus hostel for PG students has separate accommodation facilities for boys and girls. The University has its own fleet of buses plying in all the areas of city for students and staff. A branch of the Kalupur Commercial Co-operative Bank Limited, a scheduled bank with ATM facility, is located on the campus. The University has a health care centre and a non- resident doctor.

presently offers different graduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes in various branches of engineering in addition to MCA programme.

The Institute of Technology was ranked 34 in the Outlook India Best Engineering colleges 2012.^[4] In rankings limited to private institutes it was ranked 27 in the Mint Top 50 Private Engineering Colleges.^[6] In the limited CSR-GHRDC Engineering Colleges Survey 2011 it was ranked 19.^[5]
