The Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Resources Center (NALLRC) is one of the major service centers of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines situated in its main campus located in Manila, Philippines. NALLRC offers various services and development of programs to its clientele.
NALLRC is regarded as one of the largest libraries in Southeast Asia.[1] It is also home of the university's College of Law and Open University. [2]
History
The library had no home of its own until after the Second World War. In 1977, a new library building named as Bagong Lipunan Library was inaugurated. Dona Josefa Edralin Marcos, mother of then President Ferdinand E. Marcos served as the inauguration's guest speaker. Another wing of the library building was completed IN 1979-1980. The library's name was changed to Learning Resource Center.
In 1987, the name of the Library has been changed from Learning Resource Center to Library and Book Exchange Center. The following year, the construction of a four-storey library building was started. This was a result of Dr. Nemesio E. Prudente envision to build the said building.
In September 4, 1991, a four-storey edifice of the Main Library, which started its construction in 1988, was completed. It was inaugurated the same year with Dr. Guillermo N. Carague, Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management as Guest Speaker. In 1999, The name of the library was changed to Ninoy Aquino Learning Resources Center. A few years later, it was changed to Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Resources Center. [3]
Facilities and Services
The library offers various services like the Reader Services Department, a part of the library services that directly brings out research and information to library users. Sections under the department includes Reference, Serials, Filipiniana/Special Collections, and Circulation. There are also other services offered by the library like the Multimedia Services (auditorium and hall), Special Services (archives and museum), Free Wi-Fi access at the Archives Section, DOST-STARBOOKS, Library Instruction/Orientation, Readers Assistance, and Referral.
