Nine Objects of Desire is Suzanne Vega's fifth studio album, released on September 10, 1996. It peaked at number 92 on the Billboard 200.

The nine objects of desire are:
- Suzanne Vega's daughter Ruby ("Birthday", "World Before Columbus");
- a man ("Headshots");
- man 2 ("Caramel");
- a woman ("Stockings");
- man 3 ("Casual Match");
- the figure of Death ("Thin Man", "Tombstone");
- Vega's husband Mitchell Froom ("No Cheap Thrill", "Honeymoon Suite");
- Lolita, the "nymphette" of Nabokov's book ("Lolita");
- a plum ("My Favorite Plum").
In popular culture
The single "Caramel" is featured in the soundtrack for The Truth About Cats & Dogs and the trailer for the film Closer.[5] The album has influenced other artists, for instance musician Plumb found her artist name after hearing the track "My Favorite Plum".[6]
