Night Riots is an American rock band formed in the central coast of California. The band consists of Travis Hawley (Vocals), Nick Fotinakes (Guitar), Matt DePauw (Guitar), Mikel Van Kranenburg (Bass Guitar), and Rico Rodriguez (Drums).

History

The four members excluding Rico Rodriguez [1] grew up in the small Central California town of Templeton, CA just outside of San Luis Obispo.[2] During late Spring of 2013, Night Riots raised $11,842 using the crowd funding site Indie Go Go. The money was used to independently release the band's EP "Young Lore"[3] on July 30, 2013.[4]

In the Fall of 2014 Night Riots debuted their single Contagious with The World Famous KROQ and supported the artist K.Flay on a US tour.[5] On October 23, 2014 they premiered their music video for Contagious through MTV and announced their signing to Sumerian Records.[6]

On January 20, 2015 their EP "Howl" was released and the band was spotlit by Live 105 in San Francisco as "Aaron Axelsen’s Top 16 New Acts To Watch In 2015" [7]

In February of 2015 Night Riots embarked on their first full US headlining tour.[8] In March and April of 2015 Night Riots were main support on The Mowgli's US and Canada headlining tour. [9]

In May of 2015 Night Riots will perform for the entire Van's Warped Tour 2015. [10]

Musical Style and Influences

The band has stated that although they aren't a punk or emocore band, they all grew up with those roots, citing bands like AFI and Thursday as influences.[11] Covers released by the band and played live also point to The Misfits, Maroon 5, Eddie Money, and The Magnetic Fields. While promoting the release of Young Lore Travis stated they were particularly influenced by The Cure, U2, Billy Idol, The Killers, Vampire Weekend and The Strokes.[12] Unlike the rest of the members, vocalist Travis Hawley was born in the United Arab Emirates and lived in England for five years before moving to the U.S. His vocal style has often been compared to emotive European artists such as Robert Smith, Bono, and Danny Elfman.[13]
