Nigel Yates

Nigel Yates (July 1, 1944, Swansea - January 15, 2009) was Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Wales, Lampeter. [1] He received his primary education at Belmont Abbey School and later attended the University of Hull.

Career

He originally worked as archivist, first in Carmarthen then in North Tyneside before becoming Head of Archives for the Portsmouth City Council and finally for the Kent County Council. After taking early retirement in 1994, he moved to Blandford Forum. In 2000, he became senior research fellow at the University of Wales, Lampeter and was appointed Professor of Ecclesiastical History in 2005. He also served as Director of Research at Lampeter.

Professor Yates died on 15 January 2009 and was survived by his wife Paula, four children, two grandchildren and great granddaughter. His wife, Dr Paula Yates, also taught at Lampeter. Paula is currently the Dean of Non-Residential Studies at St Michael's College, Cardiff.
