Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj has been featured in seventy-two music videos (twenty-five as a lead artist and forty-seven as a featured artist), nine commercials, and four documentaries. Additionally, Minaj has featured in two films: the animated Ice Age: Continental Drift (in which she voiced the woolly mammoth Steffie) and The Other Woman, in which she played Lydia (an opinionated law-firm assistant).[1][2] In 2009 Minaj signed a recording contract with Young Money Entertainment, and released her fist solo music video under the label (for the single "Massive Attack") in March 2010.[3]

The rapper released the first music video from Pink Friday, "Your Love", in July 2010. It was directed by Director X, which premiered on MTV and featured Michael Jai White as Minaj's love interest.[4] The song peaked at number fourteen on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart.[5][6] She released "Super Bass" as the fifth single from Pink Friday, with the accompanying music video released on 5 May 2011. It became one of the best-selling singles in the U.S, with the video being noted for its originality, particularly the "glow in the dark" lap-dance scene.[7]

Minaj has eight solo Vevo-certified videos: "Super Bass", "Starships", "Right by My Side", "Beez in the Trap", "Pound the Alarm" , "Anaconda" , "Pills n Potions" and "Moment 4 Life".[8][9] As of February 2015, "Super Bass" has over 475 million YouTube views making it the second most-viewed video by a black solo-performer in history, after Rihanna's video for her song "Diamonds".[10] Minaj has accumulated over 2.8 billion YouTube views, making her the most-viewed female rapper of all time and the second most viewed rapper overall.[11] The rapper has two MTV Video Music Awards for her video work: Best Hip Hop Video for "Super Bass" (2011) and Best Female Video for "Starships" (2012).[12]

Minaj has broken the Vevo 24 hour viewing record more than any other artist with three separate videos, the video that inspired the creation of the record, "Stupid Hoe", "Beauty and a Beat" and the current record holder "Anaconda" which neared almost 20,000,000 views in the 24 hour time frame.[13] As of February 2015, "Anaconda" has north of 400 million views and has become a main figure point of discussion, being covered by major publications and shows such as ABC, The View, NBC, Time Magazine and Vogue. It was described by The Observer as being a "cultural phenomenon" while NME labelled it as an ode to women.[14][15]
