Nick at Nite international versions

Nick at Nite, a network that was originally established as a nighttime cable channel/programming block broadcasting over the channel space of the flagship Nickelodeon channel in the United States, has expanded to include worldwide versions.

Despite the success of Nick at Nite in the United States, most international versions of Nickelodeon do not carry their own Nick at Nite programming block, as those local versions of Nickelodeon outside of the United States either carry children's programming 24 hours a day or run a non-Nick at Nite program block during the nighttime hours. While Nick at Nite's U.S. flagship primarily focuses on reruns of discontinued primetime network sitcoms, some of these international versions have aired reruns of discontinued Nickelodeon series.

America

Latin America

In Latin America, Nick at Nite was aired weeknightly on Nickelodeon from 10:00pm until 6:00am since February 13, 2006. Since January 2007, shows included: ALF, Mork & Mindy, The Addams Family, The Munsters, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Growing Pains, The Facts of Life, Diff'rent Strokes, Get Smart and Perfect Strangers, which have been broadcast on other Latin American broadcast and cable channels. It replaced the programming block "Fantabuloso", which aired series aimed at teenagers and was very similar to the U.S. Nickelodeon flagship's now-defunct TEENick block. Until July 4, 2009, the block aired seven nights a week.

From July 4, 2009 until April 4, 2010, Nick Hits, a block featuring classic Nicktoons and Nick live-action series, took over the nighttime schedule on weekends. On April 5, 2010, Nick at Nite began airing on weekends once again, with the addition of classic Nicktoons to the lineup. Mork & Mindy, Happy Days, Growing Pains, The Facts of Life, Diff'rent Strokes, Perfect Strangers, The Addams Family and The Munsters were removed from the schedule, as two former Nickelodeon sitcoms were added: Zoey 101 and Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide.

Get Smart, Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie, were removed from the block on April 4, 2011. On weekdays, it only airs live-action sitcoms some former or ended Nickelodeon sitcoms, and on weekends, airs Nicktoons, including former or ended Nickelodeon animated series.

Since September 2011, the programming for the block has been decreasing slowly, starting to get negative reception from fans of the shows. Also the low effort in the bumpers has also been bad received. This change totally takes off the original concept of the block. On August 20, 2012, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and ALF were removed from the block.

Currently the block in Latin America went off the air on December 31, 2014 with a replacement called Classic Nick. It started airing on January 1, 2015.

Australia and New Zealand

In Australia and New Zealand, Nick at Nite aired from October 23, 1995 until July/August 2000. It shared the same channel as Nickelodeon broadcasting from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. on weeknights and 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. on weekends. Shows included Get Smart, Sanford and Son, The Courtship of Eddie's Father, The Fugitive, Bonanza, The Prisoner, The Saint, Thunderbirds, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Flying Nun, Gilligan's Island, Mister Ed, and The Bob Newhart Show.[1]

Europe

UK and Ireland

Nick at Nite was one of the planned, and advertised, stations as part of Sky's new Multichannels package, but was never launched.[2][3][4]

Germany, Austria and Switzerland

In Germany, Nick nach Acht (Nick after Eight) aired on Nickelodeon Germany after 8:15 p.m. CET. It aired documentaries, drama series, movies and sitcoms. It used an adapted logo of its American counterpart. Many parts of the block included reruns of Ren and Stimpy and CatDog. This is only on Nick Germany's website, though. Since December 2008, Nick and Comedy Central share the same programming block, with Comedy Central airing after 8:15 p.m., effectively replacing Nick nach Acht.[5]

In July 2014 it was announced Nickelodeon will become a 24-hour-channel again with the overnight-schedule being branded as "Nicknight" from October 2014. Comedy Central moves to the channel of VIVA where it will broadcast from 5PM to 6AM the following day.[6]

Netherlands

In the Netherlands, Nick @ Nite aired on Nickelodeon Netherlands from mid 2004 to early 2005, as Nickelodeon got access to airing 24 hours a day. It mostly aired Nickelodeon shows with their original language (as they would be aired in Dutch during the day), but at midnight they would often show vintage children-programmes like Bassie en Adriaan, De Bereboot and Calimero. The animationseries Argaï was only aired during these hours on the channel.

Nick @ Nite ran for the lifespan of their 24/7 channel. It's run in the Netherlands ended in 2005, when Nickelodeon from that point on had to share it's channel with Talpa. As a result, they decided to move to the channel occupied by The Box, first sharing it with The Box and later sharing it with the Dutch Comedy Central. Since February 14, 2011 (when Nickelodeon got to air 24 hours a day again) TeenNick debuted on the channel, which resembles much of the original Nick at Nite formula as was used back in 2004 and 2005.
