Nick Saglimbeni (born Baltimore, Maryland) is an American visual artist, primarily known for his work in photography and motion picture. Saglimbeni "is a pioneer in the field of 3D photography"[1] and is the creator of WMB 3D: World's Most Beautiful. In 2012, he was awarded the inaugural Grand Prize in 3D from Sony's World Photography Organisation.[2] All of his 3D work is photographed using the Saglimbeni3D™ camera and post-production system that he designed.

Saglimbeni has photographed commercial campaigns for companies such as Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Sears, Kmart, Skechers, and Wacom. He is also known for his portraits of high-profile families, including the Kardashian-Jenner family and Sean "Diddy" Combs.[3] Saglimbeni is also involved in creating artistic works to benefit charitable organizations, such as Autism Speaks,[4] Breast Cancer Charities of America (BCCA),[5][6] the Epilepsy Foundation, Hope for the Warriors,[7] Toys for Tots,[8] and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).[9][10]

Early life

Nick Saglimbeni was born in Baltimore, Maryland.[11] Saglimbeni moved to Los Angeles to pursue his Masters’ Degree at the USC School of Cinematic Arts,[11] where he studied cinematography under mentors John Hora and Woody Omens,[12] former President of the American Society of Cinematographers.

Career

Early years

Soon after graduation, he began concurrently working as both a cinematographer and a photographer. In January 2004, Saglimbeni opened SlickforceStudio,[13] a multimedia company specializing in motion picture production and commercial photography.

Nick Saglimbeni’s celebrity photography work began as he was photographing prominent rap artists such as Nas, T.I., Omarion, Game, and Birdman. He later became known for his photography work with notable women in Hollywood, including supermodel Estella Warren, actresses Roselyn Sánchez, Gabrielle Union and Sarah Shahi, and TV personalities Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Lachey and Layla Kayleigh.

Work with the Kardashian-Jenner Family

In August 2007, Saglimbeni met socialite Kim Kardashian while photographing her cover shoot for a magazine. Following the shoot, he continued to photograph Kim and her family members Kourtney Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Kris Jenner and Bruce Jenner for many projects, including the Kardashian Kollection™ fashion campaigns,[14][15][16] magazine covers for Kim, Kris and Khloé, Kris Jenner's autobiography book cover,[17] promotional art for Kris Jenner's talk show on Fox, Kim Kardashian’s wedding to Kris Humphries,[18] Rob Kardashian's Arthur George sock line, Kendall and Kylie Jenner’s Metal Haven jewelry line, and Kendall and Kylie's first professional modeling shoots.[19][20]

Among Saglimbeni's most visible works are his annual Kardashian-Jenner family Christmas portraits, which he photographed from 2010 through 2012.[21][22] These portraits have been featured on The View, The Talk, Larry King Live, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, among others.

Saglimbeni has been featured more than a dozen times on "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" and its' related spin-offs, seen photographing members of the family. Kim Kardashian was quoted on E! News, stating that Saglimbeni is her favorite photographer.[23] In Season 6 of Keeping up with the Kardashians during their shoot at SlickforceStudio, Saglimbeni encourages Kendall Jenner to pursue professional modeling.[24]

3D Photography

In early 2010, Saglimbeni designed the blueprint for the Saglimbeni3D camera system and then hired engineer German Pinchevsky to build the prototype. The post-production techniques used in the Saglimbeni3D system were developed by Nick Saglimbeni with the help of Slickforce Studio’s post-production supervisor Joyce Park. One of the key elements that differentiates Saglimbeni3D from other stereoscopic systems is the ability to retouch images in 3D.[25]

In August 2011, Saglimbeni created WMB 3D: World’s Most Beautiful,[26][27] which was billed as the first commercial magazine entirely photographed and designed in 3D. Released in print and as an iPad app,[28] the first issue featured Kim Kardashian on the cover. Other notable celebrities featured in WMB 3D include Stan Lee,[29] Gabrielle Union, Estella Warren, Paul Oakenfold, Kevin Hart, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Melanie Iglesias, Layla Kayleigh and Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat.[30]

In April 2012, Nick Saglimbeni received the Grand Prize in 3D for his work, “Nuclear Summer,” featuring the Swedish fashion model Therese Fischer, at the Sony World Photography (WPO) Awards in London, England.[2] That award marked the first time a 3D category was introduced into a major professional photography awards competition. Later that same year, Saglimbeni received an award from graphics-card maker NVidia for outstanding achievements in 3D photography.[12]
