Ngũ Cung (literally ngũ cung 5 tones, "pentatonic") is a progressive rock band in Hanoi, Vietnam.[1][2] They were well known since they won the talent contest Rock Your Passion in 2007.[3][4] They won the contest talent finding music Rock Your Passion.[5] After Rock Your Passion contest, Ngũ Cung also has become a phenomenon in Vietnam with the music colors mix sound effects rock music traditional music of the Northwest. All member are student of Hanoi Conservatory of Music.
First time
The competitions
Members came together very well happen. Initially, drummer Hung Cuong and lead guitar Tran Thang met in a guitar contest. Both had the same passion and belief favorite music player especially with the Progressive Rock should have egg idea of a rockband playing professional Prog Vietnam. Hung Cuong also called Duc Long (at that time was playing keyboard for the Mắt bão - Storm Eye). Not long after, Minh Duc and Hoang Hiep joined band. The band was officially established on 10-10-2007, before Rock Your Passion contest shortly.[6][7][8]
Once known as the contest winner Rock your passion. Ngũ Cung also known as the wind of the strange musical Vietnam when they play rock with ethnic instruments and classical. With the track: Cướp vợ (tục lệ người H'mông) - Wife kidnapping(traditional custom of Mong people), Nỗi đau - Pain, Nụ hôn trên đỉnh Phanxipăng - Kiss on Fansifan Mountain, Giã cốm đêm trăng - Pounding green rice flakes in the moonnight. Immediately after the end of the contest, Cướp vợ (tục lệ người H'mông) have reached the prestigious ranking of the music channels XoneFM - VOV3 - Voice of Vietnam.
Ngũ Cung and the runner up at Rock Your Passion Unlimted has been selected as the representative of Vietnam while performing with Alternative rock band My chemical romance in Tiger Unite 08.[9]
Meet the manager
Ha knew Cuong (drums) when Cuong played for the band Wild Latin tortillas that Ha has served as the Manager of the year 2005-2006. Ha had not met Cuong since Cuong left the band after Cuong performed in the band at the Opera House on November 25, 2006. Ha met Cuong only occasionally at the house at Thai Thinh street where Ha worked at there. Then Cuong changed his mobile phone numbers, Cuong and Ha did not virtually contact in almost two years from 2006 to 2007. Company where Ha work for, organized Arts celebrates 10 years of established and needed a band to remember so that Ha went to find Cuong. Ha met Cuong and Hiep at the Ngũ Cung has played opening night show Rock - Sao mai diem hen 2008. Ha has said the name works with the Honda ad on TV but did not think Cuong in the band. After a time met each other Ha and Cuong, Bui Thanh Ha became manager of Ngũ Cung.[10] In Summer 2009, drummer leader Hung Cuong received scholarships to study in Australia. This was replaced by An Chinh. In October, Minh Duc was busy in touring with the Symphony Orchestra of the Vietnam Academy of Music, and Hai Bang is the replacement of his position in the band.
Album 365000 (2009 - present)
365000 is the name of the first album of Ngũ Cung, was released free for spectators in July 2009. The album was made with the cooperation between the Five supply and Honda Vietnam.[11]
Ngũ Cung also has partnered with Riki, Tran Thanh Phuong, Tran Tuan Long in recording this debut album. They sang the English song East with American Singer Riki,[12] the song has style of music in West Asia, the first sung by Riki and later by the Hoang Hiep. Pentatonic also wrote songs with Nguyen Vinh Tien song Lồng ngực tối - Dark chest, a song style ballad. BeU (Vietnamese version) was in this album, the song they cooperate with Honda Vietnam.
365,000 - theme song and also the name of the album, made for the purpose of welcoming 1,000 years of Thang Long Hanoi.
In November 2009 they performed with the Danish rock ban The Blue Van in Hanoi[13]
In May 2010 They performanced in CAMA festival Dance4Life, after the performance of American rock band Dengue Fever (band)[14] and Charly B from France.
